Autonomous Techstore

Introduction
Equipment rooms are often locked behind opening hours and dependent on a storeman. When operations run late into the night, this becomes a bottleneck. The Autonomous Techstore lets authorised users collect and return equipment at any time while the system handles tracking and control.

The Challenge
The client wanted an equipment store that could operate without full time staff on site but still maintain strong security and clear records. Users needed to be verified, items needed to be tracked, and the entire process had to be simple enough for first time users.

Our Solution
We designed an enclosed store fitted with access control, RFID infrastructure, and a simple mobile and kiosk interface. Users authenticate at the entrance with their ID or mobile app. Once inside, they pick up the tools or devices they need. RFID readers at the exit identify the items the user is carrying.

The system checks entitlement, records the issue, and updates inventory automatically. When items are returned, the same process runs in reverse, ensuring that every asset has a clear history.

What the User Experiences

  • Unlock the store using approved credentials.
  • Take the required items from shelves or racks.
  • Walk through the exit zone where items are detected.
  • Review the list on the screen and confirm.
  • Receive a digital record of items taken.

No manual form filling, no key collection, and no waiting for a storeman.

Results
The Autonomous Techstore improves availability of equipment, cuts queuing time, and reduces after hours staffing needs. At the same time, it increases visibility of who holds which item, how often assets are used, and when they are due for maintenance.

What Gear Turf Delivered
We handled the overall store architecture, RFID layout, access control integration, and the user journey for both collection and return. The system is built to plug into existing asset and maintenance platforms so that the client gets a complete picture of their equipment without changing how they manage the rest of their operations.
